We all know it, we all have seen it, but many arbitration practitioners rarely or are hesitant to admit it: even less complex arbitrations can nowadays be hardly conducted without the assistance of an administrative secretary to the arbitral tribunal. For a young arbitration practitioner, serving as an administrative secretary can be a first and valuable step in one’s arbitration career. This article discusses the concept of an administrative secretary from a practical point of view and concludes with a few remarks on how it can enhance the career of a young arbitration practitioner.
