Copenhagen, 7 May 1997

Your Excellency,
I have the honour to inform you that the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark, with a view to facilitate travelling between the Kingdom of Denmark and the Republic of Slovenia, is prepared to conclude with the Government of the Republic of Slovenia an agreement on the mutual abolition of visa requirements on the following terms:

Article 1

Citizens of the Republic of Slovenia (hereinafter referred to as Slovenia) holding valid passports of Slovenia shall be free to enter the Kingdom of Denmark (hereinafter referred to as Denmark) at any authorized border-crossing point and to stay in Denmark for a period not exceeding three months without being required to obtain a visa. This period of three months commences on the date of entry into any Nordic State being a Party to the Convention between Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden of 12 July 1957 on the Waiver of Passport Control at the Intra-Nordic Borders. Any stay in any of those States during six months preceding the entry into any of those States from a Non-Nordic State shall be included in the above-mentioned period of three months.

Article 2

Citizens of Denmark holding valid passports of Denmark shall be free to enter Slovenia at any authorized border-crossing point and to stay in Slovenia for a period not exceeding three months during one calender year without being required to obtain a visa.

Article 3

It is understood that the waiver of visa requirements does not exempt persons benefitting under these provisions from the necessity to comply with the laws and regulations in force in Denmark and Slovenia concerning entry, residence – temporary or permanent – and work.

Article 4

Each Party reserves the right to refuse citizens of the other Party that are considered undesirable to enter and stay on its territory.

Article 5

Each Party may temporarily suspend the Agreement in whole or in part for reasons of public order. Such suspension shall be notified immediately to the other Party through diplomatic channels.
The Agreement may be denounced by either Party by notification in writing through diplomatic channels. The denunciation shall take effect one months after the date of the notification.

Article 6

Nothing in the foregoing provisions shall affect in any way the rights and obligations of either Party arising from other existing or future international agreements.
If the foregoing proposal is acceptable to the Government of Slovenia, I have the honour to suggest that the present Note and Your Excellency’s reply to that effect shall constitute the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on the mutual abolition of visa requirements, which shall be applied provisionally from the date of your reply and shall enter into force on 1 September 1997.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
